What TED stands for ?

TED, which baseline is now “ideas worth spreading”, stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It had its first conference in 1984, and has now become an important event gathering top speakers addressing a top level crowd.

I have heard of the conference from newspapers articles a few months ago, and a friend from Brazil recently reminded me it. She sent me links to TED’s website where some presentations are available.

The few ones I saw are clearly outstanding.

Two questions to be addressed though:

  • In the vast ocean of uninteresting things available on the web, how to highlight such excellent materials?
  • What’s next? After some of the talks, especially the ones addressing global issues, you are more aware but still passive. That goes back to a great concern about the Internet in general: spending more and more time being over-informed, doing very little. The Web has yet to find its political dimension.
