SeeqPod : towards the end of the ipod ?

A new service similar to the French Radioblog, except that it doesn’t only search user submitted music, but crawls music and videos from all over the internet.

SeeqPod Music beta - Playable Search - Find. Discover. Watch. Listen. Share.

The results are pretty impressive.

It really searches behind the scene of traditionnal search tools, probably using a similar script as Google for MP3.. but the interface is a genuine media player, confortable to use and elegant, with links to lyrics, news, tour dates and more. You can also save your tracks and embed them in your blog.

Now, is it legal ? Lots of similar services have been shut down for some reason. Here is what they have to say :

SeeqPod is a search and discovery company with a focus on playable search results. SeeqPod understands that in the near future most search results will need to be played in form or another. Like most other search engines or social networks with content, SeeqPod does not stream or allow downloading of media.

For me, they do stream.

Personnally, I always thought one day would come when we could say to our stereo : let’s listen to this or that album and have it streamed from the internet. Even better, I’d like a website where I could browse through artists discography and select entire albums to listen to. (Wait, thats … iTunes store!)

Now that most people use their computer to stream music, it’s possible. So do we need an ipod anymore ?

Unfortunately, my MacBook always gets sweaty when I jog with it, it’s so hard to strap to my belt, and people always want to rob me when I carry it on the subway, so I’m going to have to say, yes, I still need my iPod. :)

ahh I forgot you joggers… Doesn’t it sound so 20th century though? Jogging with a walkman, or an iPod..

I was just trying to get some attention with this title anyway.
