Can you send me some back up ?
(above message kindly delivered through her Majesty’s Royal Navy).
Please help. I am a newbie on this machine (Macbook).
For long time Mac users, this will sound stupid but I have the following issues :
- I Installed Firefox and Skype. I turned off the computer and they’re gone. Where are they ?
OK. I had to drag the icon into my Applications’ folder.
- I lost the text editor in Wordpress admin (I’ m on Safari because I don’t know where firefox’s gone)
I reinstalled Firefox and I don’t think I’ll use Safari for that reason.
- There is no delete button. I have to do “back”.
- I can’t find buttons to go to the end or the beginning of a line.
Command and “back” to delete and Fn + arrow to go to start or end. Really convenient in fact…
- of course no Control C / Control V, Control Z etc… hard to change those habits.
I just found it : Command C / Command V : a huge victory of man over the machine.
- No print screen. I have to do something much more complicated.
I installed Becca’s widget.. see her comments.
- Can’t extend the desktop to another screen (only on Macbook pro)
- didn’t really figure out the equivalent of “alt tab” to switch between apps..
- seems there is no more spellcheck in Firefox.
Probably because I installed the french version..
I’m a bit lost I confess. I’ll update this post with the answers once I’ll have found out..

No, WP text-editor doesn’t work in Safari. FF is better anyway, even if it’s just for all the extensions.
For delete, use fn-delete. I know, it sucks. Why Apple does this, I’ll never know.
CMD-arrow to get to the beginning or end of a line.
For print-screen. I use the dashboard widget, “Screenshot Plus” which can do it with one click plus save it in the way you choose. You can reach the dashboard with the widgets easily by setting it up to be reached with a simple quick mouse movement to the corner you choose with “System Preferences” then “Dashboard & Exposé.”
Alt-tab works fine for me if all programs are active, that is, not minimized to the dock. But I never use it, I use Exposé (set it up as above) which you’ll wish was on PC’s. You simply move quickly to the corner and all your active windows are arranged neatly around the desktop, open so you can see them, and you click on the one you want.
I do have spellcheck in FF… perhaps it needs to be activated within the FF preferences?
What I think about Macs is that every keyboard move on a PC takes two keys (or more) with a Mac. But the rest makes it worth it.
