Are you bored?
Again, my site was down because of my “site down” post. My host decided to suspend my account for nearly one day… Just because I was getting a little too much traffic from “I-am-bored.com“… (700visits/hour at peak, before they suspended my account).
So I am not sure I want to recommend Site5 anymore. Anyway, although the affiliate link in my side bar brought them 133 leads in less than 2 months, none of them converted into clients for them, and that means no earning for me. I am starting to wonder what amount of traffic people have to make a living with blogs. My ads make me less than one dollar a day. This is below poverty line…
This evening, during my yoga class, I realized I always set objectives to myself, like getting in Technorati top 100, or touching my feet with my hands at yoga (without bending the knees…), or being fluent in Japanese. I run the risk of being always frustrated if I don’t reach my goals, instead of doing something just for the sake of it : having a blog because blogging is fun, doing yoga because it’s good for me, or learning Japanese because it’s a great language to learn.
I doubt this kind of introspective post is of any interest for the folks at I-am-bored.com..
They see one page and go away. There is very little they have to say : “lol, nice”. “worked for me haaahaaa”, “dumb”, “hahaha lots of good uns”.
I am bored, lol.

It’s lucky I’m on RSS, I didn’t even notice.
But having goals is the first step to failure! Don’t have goals; then your successes are a happy surprise. I also recommend blogging for fun, learning a language for fun, then blogging about learning a language for fun. At the moment, my language-learning consists of listening to French pop songs. I’m not learning all that much but it’s OK! I have no goal.
Also, go ad-free, then make a little badge for your footer that says your blog is ad-free. That wasn’t my goal, it was just a happy surprise.
PS… lol, nice.

Advice from another french frog: if you’re looking for a hosting company that won’t cut you off try WebFaction or ASmallOrange. I had a similar problem as yours with DreamHost so I tried both these companies and they were both very good. In the end I stayed with WebFaction because configuration is a bit easier.

Becca, Thanks for your comforting words ! I was afraid that someone would say : “c’mon, set yourself some objectives ! “. No, You are totally right. Let’s just be what we are. “soyons désinvoltes, n’ayons l’air de rien”… If you don’t know, just Google it..
It’s good for your French (I’m a bit concerned you don’t listen to the right kind of French music… The track you mentioned the other day.. ) I can point you to good stuff (but my generation only..)

Jean-Philippe.
Thanks for the tip. Where’s the link to your site ?
(J’aime bien voir les sites des gens qui me visitent..Et me faire une idée de cet hébergeur) ..
WebFaction looks good, but it all probably depends on the price one is ready to pay. But even this is no guarantee. In doubt, I prefer to pay the minimum. And moving hosts is a big hassle.
A bientôt

Well, I’m stuck with what I can hear on Internet radio (lots of Olivia Ruiz and and Bénabar, usually) so I’m open to any recommendations. If you know a good Internet radio station, even better. Thanks!

Becca,
Go to http://www.radioblogclub.fr
and type “Noir desir”, Gainsbourg or Dominique A..

They do play those artists on my station and I especially like Noir Desir ( I downloaded “Le vent nous portera” from iTunes even) . Good, I feel better about my taste.
I don’t know if the station is available outside the US but it’s called “French Scene” and can be launched from here: http://music.aol.com/radioguide/bb.

Great ressource, thanks.
I know you’re in the music industry. I forgot to mention that French Rap is supposed to be very good, although it’s not my kind (I don’t really understand the lyrics).

I like Indiefeed.com, great stuff. I’m a rocker, I think…
