How to edit videos online ?
I spotted eyespot the other day and I thought I might try it.
Video sharing sites usually allow to upload and share. This one allows to edit, mix, add music, all on line.
I wanted a simple way to mix my travel videos with my music and create little clips for my website. So I decided to give it a try this sunday.
Testing Eyespot.com
1/ creating an account. Easy. 1 minute.
2/ Uploading. 7 video/ photo/ music files at a time. 100 meg maximum per file.
Tried with 7 videos. A bout 10 megas each. Nothing happened for about 10 minutes. No progress bar. Just contacting the server at eyespot.
So I stopped and tried with one video only. 8 Megas. 7 minutes later :
“Upload Complete. MOV00108.MPG successfully uploaded. Your uploaded files will be available in your account shortly.”
I added two MP3. Quite fast.
I added one more video and there came the progress bar… Bizarre.

3/ Then I went to my media page. Surprisingly, other stuff was there from other users. I had to delete many clips. My Mp3 were hidden on Page 2 of My music, with other files I never added…
4/ Then It was fairly easy to create a clip by drag and dropping videos to the timeline. I even managed to add the music file.
Then to save it you have to give it a name. This didn’t work.. I had to do it all over again.
I finally tried with IE tab. It worked (sometimes my Firefox behaves bizarrely) !

5/ So I kept working on it and here is the result :
It was finally quite fun. (Even error messages : “hey there Mix mangler…”)
You can add titles, effects (fade in, slow down, sepia…).. Then you can download your creation for Mac, Windows or Ipod. They also send you an email with the link.
You can make it public or keep it private.
Too bad it’s not possible to select within the clips you upload the parts you want to use.You can also publish the flash video for your blog, or video sharing sites… They give you the code.
I must have skipped a few features, but in the end it does the job. I am quite convinced.
A good Web 2.0 app. !
