Can Web 2.0 be scary ?
Yes it can. I found two websites that are resolutely 2.0 and scary. One is Chicago Crime. It’s a mash up of google map and Chicago Police database. It can locate crimes on a map, and sort it by tags : date, street, type of crime… Some areas seem really dangerous.
Second one is My death Space. It collects info about Myspace users who have died. With 85 + Million users, Myspace already has a certain amount of “late” members (Almost 500). Their pages are still available. They could create a Myspace Group.

I think this is really an issue. THere are tons of articles and litterature about how great the Web (in general) is and how it could be an amazing tool for more democracy and lots of positive changes (which is true indeed !) but maybe not enough about its potential dangers which are as great as its benefits…
Look at how Google is turning into an holistic online advertisement company… If it was not Google and if it had not been created by two cool kids I guess that more people would raise concerns about how dominant the company and its potential intrusion in privacy…
